Peak Hill (Gold; EL6319 + Mining Leases)
Located 15km south of Tomingley Gold Operations, the Peak Hill Gold Mine operated from 1996 to 2005.Around 153,000 ounces of gold was recovered from a heap leach operation, processing the oxidised ore, from a high sulphidation epithermal deposit hosted within the Ordovician aged MingeloVolcanics. The ore body was mined to a depth of 100 metres and a substantial sulphide gold deposit exists below the oxide zone.
Current Project Status
Since the closure of the mine, the site has essentially been on care and maintenance, with considerable effort made to rehabilitate the landforms across the site, which has substantially been achieved. In July 2014, Alkane submitted a Mine Operations Plan (MOP) to NSW Department of Industry – Resources and Energy outlining and scheduling the remaining actions required to make the site ready for the mining leases to be either renewed or relinquished in 2022.
Intermittent exploration activities have been undertaken to assess the potential for a parent intrusive to the high sulphidation mineralisation and for structurally controlled gold mineralisation similar to that mined at Tomingley.
